Jesus Christ is Returning Soon
What if I told you that at some point within the next 37 years, Jesus Christ was going to return to Earth for all to see? Of course, I have no way of knowing that because “the hour and the day no man knoweth, neither the angels in heaven, nor shall they know until he comes.” D&C 49:7
But set that aside for a moment. If I did know, and if you actually believed me, how would that affect your decision making between now and then? Would you immediately take action where you may have previous delayed?
Within 37 years means it could be today and it could be in 37 years. You might not even be alive in 37 years. Knowing the possibility you’ll die prior to His return, would you try to prepare your children? Who would you have a conversation with? Who would you forgive? To whom would you turn for forgiveness? What confessions would you make? What obstacles would you suddenly feel strong enough to overcome?
Think about it this way. We are one of the first generations in the history of the Earth that can realistically say that it is possible that Christ could return within our lifetime. Why? Because of all of the prophecies that must be fulfilled prior to His return that have already been fulfilled. We live in a day when the complete fulfillment of these prophecies actually appears possible–even likely. Other generations had thought it possible, but hindsight is 20/20.
The temple in Jerusalem is yet to be built. The temple in the New Jerusalem is yet to be built. There are still nations on Earth closed to the message of the restoration. Armageddon is still a future event. There are prophecies yet to be fulfilled, but some of these things can happen very quickly. Other things can drag out over a long period of time. We’ve had 185 years since the church was restored. That is what I call dragging it out over a long period of time. But other things can happen in rapid succession.
What is the point?
The point is that I’m 32. I didn’t know if I’d live this long. But if I live another 32 years, I believe I will experience Armageddon. If I live through that then I’ll probably be here for the second coming of Jesus Christ. That is my thought. But even if I am not, my children probably will. So whether or not I am fortunate enough to witness Jesus Christ coming to Earth with his heavenly hosts, I can guide my children to carry the torch of preparation.
No person or angel knows the day or hour when Christ will return. But we have all been given enough information to know with absolute certainty that the time is near. We have also be given all of the information we need to know how to be prepared.
I defer to my brethren in Christ to teach concerning the preparations that we need to make.
